A camp titled “Girls at the Center for Climate Action” was organized in Lankaran from October 11-13. The camp was initiated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Azerbaijan, with support from the COP29 Youth Climate Champion and Forest School Azerbaijan.
The camp brought together approximately 25 adolescent girls from various regions of the country. Its primary objective was to foster a deep understanding of climate change among these girls through experiential learning, leadership development, and outdoor activities.
Coinciding with the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, the three-day camp featured training sessions on topics such as “Climate Change and Gender,” “The Role of Girls in Climate Resilience,” and “Leadership in Climate Action.”
Furthermore, in line with the Forest School education concept, participants engaged in various social, emotional, physical, and intellectual activities, including “Exploring Local Ecosystems” and “Environmental Awareness.”
The adolescent girls also participated in group discussions and simulations to learn how to implement and promote environmental sustainability within their communities.
This camp is part of UNFPA’s preparations for the COP29 conference scheduled for November in Baku.
